Charities
As with the previous 400-mile trip, this one will be in the name of raising money for charity. On this occasion, I will be raising money for two charities, both of which are close to my heart.
The first charity is Alder Hey Children’s Charity, which is based in Liverpool which is where we will be finishing our ride. This charity is close to home as my grandson spent time in Alder Hey when he was very little due to a birth defect called Craniosynostosis. Through the astute observation of a nurse during a routine check-up he was referred to Alder Hey. Following further testing he was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis and, subsequently, underwent surgery at the hospital. A number of years on from the surgery he is now a thriving bundle of energy!
The second charity is the Children’s Golf Trust which is the brainchild of Royal Troon’s Head Professional, Kieron Stevenson, and of which I am a trustee. The charity is supported by the The Golf Foundation and the R&A, in addition to Royal Troon Golf Club and others. The idea behind the charity is to introduce golf in the local community via the Primary School with the following benefits occurring: increased golf participation; increased physical and mental health; helping eduction; helping social interaction; helping teamwork. At the moment the charity is only working in Scotland but hope to roll-out throughout the UK in time.
